How is Vocal Cord Toxin Injection Performed?
Vocal cord toxin injection can be performed in two ways: endoscopically under general anesthesia or with local anesthesia in an outpatient setting. It is most commonly performed under local anesthesia worldwide. I also prefer to perform it in an outpatient setting for almost all my patients. When applied in the outpatient clinic, vocal cord toxin injection is a procedure that takes minutes. Patients return home on the same day and are generally not expected to experience severe pain after the procedure.
The vocal cord toxin injection procedure begins to show its effect within a few days and lasts for 3-6 months. While some of the conditions listed above require repeated procedures, a single application may be sufficient for others.
When performed for the correct vocal disorder and at the appropriate dose, vocal cord toxin injection can be the ideal treatment for your hoarseness. If you suffer from any of the aforementioned conditions, please consult an ENT specialist experienced in vocal disorders as soon as possible.
