Vocal Cord Nodule
Vocal cord nodules are usually caused by misuse of the voice. It is often seen in teachers, lawyers, call center workers and vocal artists.
Small callus-like tissues form on the vocal cords. These tissues are formed as a result of thickening of the vocal cords in the trauma area. It manifests itself with hoarseness and bifurcation in the voice. It is often accompanied by muscle pain in the neck and a feeling of fatigue in the throat.
Endoscopic evaluation of the vocal cords is essential for the diagnosis. Small nodules of small size and short duration can easily heal with voice therapy. Nodules that do not respond to voice therapy are corrected with microscopic vocal cord surgery.
Learning to use the voice correctly and paying attention to vocal hygiene is the most important way to prevent recurrence.
