Muhammet Enes Bayram, who contracted coronavirus in August last year, was taken to intensive care as soon as he arrived at the hospital and was intubated within 12 hours. Days passed. Doctors now told his family, “His condition is very serious. We may not be able to save him. Prepare yourself”. After 25 days in intensive care, good news came. After 2.5 months of treatment in the ward, he held on to life.
SHORTNESS OF BREATH
38-year-old Muhammet Enes Bayram, who has 2 children, started to experience shortness of breath when he thought the hard days were over. After he was intubated, he was unable to walk and speak due to the narrowing of his trachea. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Necati Enver saw that the trachea, which should normally be 15 millimeters on average, narrowed to 2-3 millimeters in Bayram. The deformed and narrowed part of the trachea, which was 2.5 centimeters long, was surgically removed and the upper and lower parts were sewn again. Bayram, who stated that he could not walk before the surgery and had difficulty climbing stairs, regained his former health.
‘WE ALSO Tried A BALLOON’
Marmara University Pendik Training and Research Hospital Otorhinolaryngology Specialist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Necati Enver said, “We first tried endoscopic interventional methods such as balloon treatment for Mr. Muhammet, but his windpipe was quite narrowed. Therefore, we resorted to open surgery.”
