Adolescent Voice Disease
During puberty, the larynx of men grows and changes shape. This affects the tension and placement of the vocal cords, resulting in a thicker voice. This is a normal and necessary process.
While this natural process occurs in men, for some reasons, patients believe that their old voice is their own voice and try to continue using that voice. Patients usually come with complaints such as my voice sounds like a child, my voice is getting thinner and thicker beyond my control.
They may have difficulty being a part of society in daily life and socially because of this childish sounding voice. This is a correctable condition.
The patient can be taught to use their own voice by using voice therapy, which includes some exercises and interventions. In cases where this cannot be solved, surgical thickening of the voice is also an option.
